Data-Driven Science Patrick Combettes
Distinguished Professor, Mathematics
Patrick L. Combettes joined NC State in August 2016 as a Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program cluster hire in Data-Driven Science. A Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mathematics, he focuses on numerical nonlinear analysis and optimization, and their applications to data-driven problems.
Combettes was initially trained in France’s Grandes Écoles. He received his Ph.D. in 1989 from NC State and his Habilitation from Université Paris Sud in 1996. He joined the faculty of the City University of New York in 1990 (City College and Graduate Center), where he became a full professor in 1999. That year, he joined the faculty of mathematics of Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, where he became a Professeur de Classe Exceptionnelle in 2010.
